Abstract

This paper will present a work done in 2008 to study the territories among Venezia and Padova. The study aimed to reconstruct, systemize and adequately visualize the historical evolution of the territory, from the first Roman age drainages to the last interventions. The current conformation of the territory in fact, because of its wetland nature, was mainly influenced by the processing of water resources through ages, which is both an environmental and a political matter; therefore, the history of the waters management actually reflects the priorities on territory government, the relationships and the themes which have been forming the equilibrium between local authorities and the city of Venice and finally the interest of this one to expand and control its surrounding mainland. The work presented is part of the research project “OP Adriatico”, which involved some Italians Universities in the investigation of the relationship between this unusual territory, examined as a palimpsest of historical-landscape structures continuously evolving, and the big infrastructures for transportations and services, requested by the present. This study aimed to individuate, if they exists, zones where it is eventually possible to insert infrastructures and to add new services for the collectivity in a coherent way, consequently to the results of the historical study.
